Making time for a quickie!

...a quickie workout that is...

Most moms I know all have the same excuse. "If I just had more time I would work out and get in shape" I find myself saying this all the time. And even though I know it is just an excuse I still say it. I think it makes me feel better just knowing that I am thinking about exercising. I bet that thinking about doing sit ups burns maybe a half a calorie?? That is better than none. Right??

My Aunt has two good friends that came up with a great product. It is called the Carry Out Workout It has everything you need to workout anywhere for just a few minutes. And the best part about this is they make it so much fun! It's bright colorful package and fun sayings make this a great gift for any new mom or any woman. It comes with its very own "Instant fantasy workout buddy", (ooo lala) laid out day by day workouts, and your personal fitness tube.

Susan And Fifi have come up with a great idea and workout kit! I love mine and even though I don't use it everyday. I have used it and it really works! The kids also like to use the tube as a jump rope but that is another story.

Go by and see CarryOut Workout and you too can get all you need to workout anytime for just $19.95.
No more excuses because we all have time for a "quickie" ;)

A Matter of Perspective

Isn't it funny how people view the same situation differently? Yesterday is a good example. We had a snow day and guess what the kids were out of school. Now in Tennessee it's really not a snow day but more like an ice day. Being a mom with teenagers I am all for kids getting out of school when the roads are icy. Just the thought of my 17 year old slipping around on ice makes my stomach hurt. Wendy, however, has a very different feeling about snow days. Since her kindergarten age daughter was out of school, she spent the day in the office. It is amazing how needy a child becomes when you are working under deadline. Its as though your request to "Let me do my work." somehow becomes translated into "Ask me fifty questions." The changes in our daily schedule made me ask myself, "When does it change?" You know, when do you stop saying "Give me a moment's peace." and start saying "Give me a moment please?"

I'm in the latter phase of child rearing. I remember all too well begging my children to give me just a few more minutes to finish up an article for a publisher. I remember caring loads of toys with me when I had an appointment. I remember fussing because going to the bathroom meant I had a child talking to me on the other side of the door. But I also remember cuddling in our favorite chair reading a book, drawings created out of love and hung proudly on the refrigerator, and, of course, warm sloppy kisses with tender hugs. My girls are wonderful and very loving. They spent their day off cleaning up the house as a suprise. It was great, but I miss those little moments when I knew I was the most important person in their lives. Yes, its great to have a snow day and not worry about childcare, but there are some perks to being needed. I guess is all a matter of perspective. Happy Valentine's Day, Marzee

Taking Time Away From The kids!

Now don't get me wrong, I LOVE my kids! But this weekend I planned a one night getaway for my Husband's Valentine surprise. The nice thing is it was also on my birthday! I reserved a room at the Byrn-Roberts Inn Bed and Breakfast . Since it was also my birthday I was able to tell my husband that I was going out with a girl friend on that night so he couldn't make plans himself. He wasn't extremely happy that I chose to be with a friend over him and the family on my birthday but I figured he would get over it.

On the night of the surprise I had my Aunt come over to stay with the kids and I packed a bag and took it to the wonderful room before hand. When Brian got home expecting to spend the night with the kids he was welcomed at the door by our children and my Aunt trying very hard to keep their secret. I asked him to come with me. He wasn't too happy not knowing what was going on but again I knew he would get over it.

Julie and David, Owners of the Byns-Roberts Inn were in on the surprise and greeted us at the door. I would not tell Brian what was going on until we went inside. Once inside he was completely surprised and started to relax at the thought of spending a night away from home.

If you live in Murfreesboro you should take a night and visit the Byns-Robert Inn. The house is Beautiful! We stayed in the Garden Regency Room. We both felt like we stayed a night in a Spa. We were pampered by the room itself and I was able to take a bath in a huge jacuzzi tub. There were so many little details that made all the difference in making us feel welcomed. David and Julie have thought of everything.

And the Breakfast... Wow! Julie made a fiesta quiche that was incredible and we got to meet new people and actually have adult conversation.

So we had a great night away from the kids, a much needed night away from the kids. It is something all parents should do every once in a while just to get to know one another again. Because we all tend to forget life before kids.

Oh and by the way I think our kids sometimes need a night away from the parents. They had a blast with their Aunt! Thank you Aunt Terry!!! ~Wendy
