Griffin Graduates

from pre-school!!   How did this happen?  Where did the time go?  It just seems like yesterday when he went to preschool for the first time full time.  He was two.    Now he is almost 5.   How did that happen??

They did a skit first of the Hungry Caterpillar.   Griffin was the cup cake

They turned into butterflies and are flying off to kindergarten.

Then they got on their cap and gown and came down the isle.   Getting Griffin to look at the camera is always a hard task.

Look at how big my baby is.

He did a great job of sitting up there waiting for his turn to get his diploma.  This is a huge thing for Griffin... sitting still.  You can tell he is having to really work on it.

Finally it is his turn.    He got a lot of claps and whistles when he got his diploma.

By the look on his face you would have thought he had gotten a Star Wars double light saber instead of a rolled up piece of paper.

Griffdeploma

What a great job Griffin.   I know he is dieing to find out what is in that rolled up piece of paper.  There is no telling what he thinks is in there.

Sour grass, Milkweed and photographs

When I was a kid I used to stay at my grandmother's house in the summer.  The kids that lived next to my grandparents house introduce me to sour grass.    What is sour grass?   Well it looks a lot like clover but it is smaller and it has yellow flowers, and you can eat it.   It tastes very sour.  As a kid it was always so much fun to eat.   After it is washed of course.    So I introduced my kids to sour grass a few years ago.    They just have to be able to tell the difference between sour grass and other grass.

So this morning bright and early, before it got too warm, Camille and Griffin helped me weed one of my flower beds.  Well I weeded while they hunted and ate sour grass.

Just in case you don't know what sour grass looks like.

We had fun digging in the dirt .  I have a bed full of Strawberry plants but you could not see them because  they were hiding under all the weeds.  What a nice surprise to find this big strawberry . The plants have not produced much fruit this year after that cold snap.

Onestrawberry

If you know me then you know how crazy I am about Monarch Butterflies.   In the fall I made sure that the milkweed seed pods blew seeds all over my yard.     But I haven't seen any new milkweed.   Then today I went into my neighbors yard.  His grass hasn't been mowed in a while.   He does not live there any more and his yard guy hasn't been there in a while.    There was milkweed growing everywhere!   The problem is that as soon as the yard guy comes he will mow all the milkweed down.     So I had a mission to save the milkweed!    There I was with my little spade digging up all the little milkweed and putting it in a vase full of water.      After the roots grow a little in the water I will plant them along the fence.     I almost ran out of milkweed to feed the caterpillars last year.    I should be all set for this year.

Milkweed

I have also planted lots of tropical milkweed from the seeds that came off of last year's plants.    Like I said I should have enough milkweed.

If anyone wants some milkweed for your garden let me know and I will find a way to get it to you.

The other thing I did today was finish my Etsy page.  I am selling my photography .   I don't know if it will sell but at least I tried.   So take a look .

I am touched

As some of you know I am going to have to close the boutique.     This is not something I want to do but something I have to do.   You never know when life is going to throw you a curve ball.    And when that happens you have to do the best you can with what you got.    "When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade." (maybe add some extra sugar, strawberries and a dash of rum... O.K. maybe  ALOT of rum.)

I want to thank everyone that has been so supportive.    So many people came for the big sale, which, by the way,  will be going on until May 31st.   So many people let me know that the store will be missed and that helped a little.

So Thank you Everybody.   My Lemonade is starting to taste pretty good.   :)

What a great Mother's Day!

Yesterday was  great Day.     It started with Camille insisting on me getting Breakfast in bed.   So She and Brian made a nice breakfast and she brought it to me.   She made sure I stayed in the bed until it was finished.   Then I got a nice card and six back rub coupons from Camille and Griffin.   I got to cash in one of my coupons last night.  Thank you Camille!

Then Dee and I took the kids to a really cool farm that has animals that you usually find at the zoo,    zebras, camels, ostriches, emu, bison, you name it.    They had a great time.  We ended up staying for like 3 hours.     Here are some pictures of the day:

The camel was so funny. Very friendly!

Give Them Cake!!!

Griffin wasn't feeling good today, So we stayed home so he could rest.  While he rested (watching Scooby Doo and Star Wars)  I made a Red Velvet Cake!  I got the recipe from here.   Brian always talks about how great the Bubble Room Red Velvet Cake is so I made it.    It was fun but I had to go to the store three times because I kept forgetting something.

Batter

This is such a red batter.  It calls for 1/3 cup of red food dye.

  Cake2

Two of the pans cooling.

Icing2

Nothing but yummy butter, cream cheese and sugar.  Man does this taste good!!!!  This has to be whipped up really creamy.

Icing

Just slap on the icing...

Cake

Instead of flour I used sugar to dust the pans with.   It made a really nice crust.

Cake3

Da Dah!   A masterpiece!

Cake4

It tasted pretty good if  I do say so myself!!!!
